- Material properties
316L stainless steel is an austenitic stainless steel containing molybdenum, featuring excellent corrosion resistance (especially in environments with chloride ions), high-temperature strength and resistance to pitting corrosion. It is suitable for harsh environments such as petroleum, chemical engineering and Marine engineering.
- Manufacturing process
- Forming method: The process of reducing the diameter by pressing, expanding the diameter by pressing or a combination of both is adopted. Some specifications are completed by stamping. During the forging process, the flow direction of the metal needs to be controlled to ensure the uniformity of the inner and outer surfaces.
- Heat treatment: The annealing temperature is typically 1900-2100°F (1038-1149°C), with rapid cooling to enhance corrosion resistance. However, 316L cannot be hardened through heat treatment.
- Processing requirements: Forging tolerances must be strictly controlled to avoid forming defects caused by poor material fluidity.
- Execution standards and pressure levels
- Standard system: Complies with national standards (GB/T 12459, GB/T 13401), American standards (ASME B16.9, ASME B16.11), and standards of the Ministry of Chemical Industry (HG/T 21635), etc.
- Pressure rating: Commonly 3000LB, 6000LB, 9000LB
- Application fields
- Petrochemical industry: high-pressure pipeline systems, LNG cryogenic transportation, reactor matching.
- Marine engineering: Seawater desalination reverse osmosis pipelines, ship power systems.
- Nuclear power and electricity: Cooling water pipelines for nuclear power plants, flue gas desulfurization systems.
- Food and pharmaceuticals: Sanitary grade pipes are used for the transportation of dairy products and pharmaceutical fluids.
- Connection method and specification
- Connection forms: butt welding, socket welding, threaded connection, etc. In high-pressure scenarios, butt welding or socket welding is mostly adopted to ensure sealing.
